Professional Development

Most maths tutors never study how to teach. I find this staggering.

They may know the content. They may be familiar with the curriculum. But they’ve never trained in how students actually build mathematical understanding or how to rebuild it when it’s broken.

If you’re not relentlessly learning how to teach, you’re not a teacher.

I’ve spent years actively developing my teaching brain. Through conferences, reading dozens of books, hosting my own maths videocast, attending workshops, running a Facebook group of maths tutors and continual reflection.

This page documents just a portion of that journey.
